Rain poured heavily on the day Yamashita Tomohisa entered his
new school. He didn’t like the smell of rain, he never did. He ran with all his might from the gate to the main entrance
while covered his head with his new school bag. He sighed when he finally reached the main entrance. Some students were
changing their outdoor shoes with their indoor ones. Yamashita’s appearance suddenly caught their attention. Whispers spread
like bugs in an instant, but Yamashita didn’t care much. He approached one of male student and asked where he could find the
teacher’s room. The boy pointed the direction, Yamashita mumbled an almost barely audible thanks. Then he walked away, still
with a cold face.
Around 10 minutes later Yamashita found himself walking slowly behind Nakamura-sensei, his
supposed to be homeroom teacher. Nakamura-sensei opened the door with a small banner printed 2-D above it. He waited outside
until Nakamura-sensei signaled him to come inside. Again, he could hear whispers around his class. Being transferred in the
middle of semester surely wasn’t a normal thing. But he didn’t need anyone to gossip about him in his first day of school. He
never asked for one anyway. But despite being annoyed with the strange welcome he received, he still wrote his name on the
blackboard, by Nakamura-sensei’s order of course.
“I am Yamashita Tomohisa, a transfer student, please give me
guidance,” a simple introduction escaped from his mouth, received another yet whispers around his new classmates.
Do you think he did something bad in his old school?
He’s really cool, I don’t mind dating him.
Are you crazy, he could be a bad boy! Look at his earrings!
Those were some of the whispers he
could hear faintly and he clenched his fingers, tried hard not to snarl. He hated being judged like that.
“Yamashita, you can sit in the empty table over there. Horikita, please help Yamashita.” Nakamura-sensei’s order somehow made
him back to reality. He loosened his fingers down. He had made a decision. He didn’t need friends in this school.
“Yes, sensei!” answered so called Horikita, but Yamashita couldn’t tell which one Horikita was.
He just simply
walked to the empty table. He threw himself to the chair and almost shoved his bag on the table. He clearly wasn’t happy. He
had never been happy ever since his father got a new job in this boring town. He had no choice but to move along because he
didn’t want his father to live alone. Being the only child, his father has been taking good care of him ever since his mother
passed away 5 years ago. He just couldn’t bear to abandon his father for his own selfishness. Yamashita Tomohisa had a heart
after all.
“Hi, welcome to 2-D!” he could hear a familiar voice welcoming him.
Was it the same
voice he just heard before?
He looked to the source of the voice and found a girl next to him, smiling
radiantly at him. It was the first genuine smile he ever received since the day he moved to this town. He could feel his
heart beat faster than usual.
He nodded sheepishly. He wondered why suddenly he couldn’t speak any words.
“My name is Horikita Maki, I’m the class head,” said the girl again.
“Ehh?” he never imagined the head
class was a girl before. More over a very pretty girl, with beautiful big brown eyes, cute nose, small lips and high cheek
bone. A short fringe framed her face and black hair fell down by her shoulder. He was stunned once again.
“Nice to
meet you,” she chuckled upon Yamashita’s reaction.
“Ohh!” once again Yamashita could barely say anything, he wanted
to respond this nice girl properly, but his lips couldn’t cooperate with his brain.
“If you didn’t make the
introduction in front of class earlier, I would have thought you couldn’t speak Japanese,” she teased and cause Yamashita’s
face turned red all the sudden.
“I-I speak Japanese,” Yamashita defended himself weakly. He was so embarrassed.
“Well, Japanese speaker Yamashita-kun, we will have English class shortly, do you have the textbook already?”
Yamashita’s eyes grew larger, he didn’t have the textbooks yet, he even didn’t know the daily class schedule. He
shook his head. He was surprised when she moved her table close to his, and spread the textbook in the middle so both of them
could read together. They stayed like that for the rest of the day.
***
Yamashita exhaled when the
bell finally rang. He survived on his first day in this new school. He stretched his hands up behind his ears. He looked
around, almost all his classmates have already gone, or so he thought. Horikita Maki was still there, still sitting next to
him. Rain was still pouring though not as heavy as before.
“Horikita-san?” he took all his courage to call her
name. He never really had experience with girls before. He always entered an all boys’ school since elementary school.
“Yes, Yamashita-kun?”
“Why you are still here? Don’t you want to go home?”
“Home? Ahh, in a
minute, I have some documents to be handed out to Nakamura-sensei. Could you give me a hand?” she asked with her sweetest
smile.
How I could resist that smile?
Being a gentleman, he picked the heaviest books and only
let her carry light papers. They walked to the teacher’s room side by side. He finally noticed how small she was. Her height
barely passed his shoulder. She looked so thin and fragile under that sailor uniform. Her skirt wasn’t as short as the other
girls had, just around her knees. He didn’t know why he kept on observing her until they arrived in front of the teacher’s
room.
She knocked on the door. They came inside and handed all the books, papers and documents to Nakamura-sensei.
He never thought how hard it was to be a class head. They excused themselves and bowed before stepped out from the office.
After changing shoes, they walked to the main entrance and saw the rain suddenly turn heavy again. Both of them stood
there for a while until …
“Yamashi-“
“Hori-“
Both chuckled for being trapped in the
awkwardness.
“Well, ladies first,” said Yamashita.
“Thank you for helping me.”
“Ahh, no
problem. You also helped a lot today by lending the books for today’s lessons.”
He got a smile as a reply. Silence
came between them once again.
“Uhm, I better go now, see you tomorrow!”
“Hey! Wait!”
Yamashita stopped at his track and turned around to face her with a questioned look on his face.
“You didn’t
bring an umbrella, right? If you don’t mind, you can use mine.” She suddenly opened her school bag and picked out a pink
patterned foldable umbrella and passed it to him.
“Ehh, how about yourself?”
“It’s okay, I can wait
until the rain stops.”
“No, I can’t accept this. You should go home soon too! Your parents must be worried.” He
handed back the umbrella to her. She bit her lips.
“How about we share this umbrella?” she suggested.
They ended up walking together under the same umbrella.
***
They didn’t say any words during the
journey home. Her umbrella was so small, so they had to shift their bodies close to each other. He could smell the scent of
her shampoo, it was sweet like roses. He liked it instantly. Once she tripped a little and Yamashita had to grasp her waist
to prevent her from falling. She was light like a feather and so fit in his arm, both were blushing. She whispered thanks and
he nodded coolly.
They remained silent, until they reached her house. She asked for his address before and told
him that her house was nearer, therefore they would stop at her house first and Yamashita could bring home her umbrella. He
stunned seeing her house, it was big and he could tell she came from a wealthy family. He felt so small all of a sudden. He
only lived in a small flat with two tiny bedrooms for him and his father. He was nothing compared to her.
“Well,
thanks for walking me home, Yamashita-kun. I’ll see you tomorrow, kay?”
“Thanks for the umbrella too.”
She smiled, waved him goodbye and disappeared inside the big house. Yamashita sighed. He lost the battle even before he
started it. A boy from a poor family would never match with a girl from a rich family. He shrugged and got ready to continue
walking home until something bothered him. He stared at the name engraved on her gate. It was written as “NISHIKIDO” not
“HORIKITA”.
***
The next day, Yamashita was given the daily schedules for his class, text books and
also training packs for P.E. class by Nakamura-sensei. He just noticed that the first lesson for that day was P.E. and it
already started 5 minutes ago. He hurried himself to the nearest male toilet and got changed. He tore the plastic of the
training packs and cringed upon the t-shirt, it was soft pink! Yamashita would never wear something pink, ever! He always
thought pink never suited for male specimen. He hesitated to wear it, but he had no choice. He changed quickly, but something
was wrong. The t-shirt was kind a little too tight for him. Damn, sensei gave the wrong size for me! he cursed inside
his mind. He was late. He had no time to change the t-shirt.
Yamashita entered the sport hall. The first thing he
heard was number of giggle sounds from the girls. He could feel some of them pointing at him as well. Some boys started to
laugh, and he finally realized he became the object of their laughter. It took him a while before he noticed all boys
actually wore white t-shirt not pink. The pink ones were for girls. He could feel all the blood rushed up to his cheek, he
never felt so embarrassed like this before.
Nakamura-sensei approached him.
“Yamashita, why are you
wearing pink? Did I give you the wrong t-shirt?”
He gritted his teeth. He was almost this close to punch
Nakamura-sensei right into his face. But somehow he managed to stay calm and nod.
“Horikita! Go help Yamashita!”
ordered Nakamaru-sensei.
Maki went up from the floor. She was waiting her turn for the volley practice. Yamashita
swore he could see her evil grin before she spoke, “Yes, sensei!”
She led Yamashita out of the hall, and they
walked side by side with her smiling widely and sometimes stole a glance at his t-shirt.
“You must be very happy
right now. Please stop it!”
“I’m sorry for being rude, Yamashita-kun. But you do look good in pink!” replied her
with hands covered her mouth trying hard for not laughing.
“I AM NOT!” retorted Yamashita.
“Ok ok, I
won’t laugh anymore. But hey, I think I have a nickname for you now. Ya-Ma-Pi! Isn’t it cute? I’m a genius after all.”
Yamashita blinked.
“Y-Yamapi? What do you mean??”
“Friends have nickname for each other right?
So I give you a nickname. Do you like it?”
His heart raced and he could feel his cheek was flushed like a red
tomato. He didn’t like the idea of getting a nickname from a pink t-shirt, but it was from Maki. And it was his first
nickname ever.
“But Horikita, I don’t have a nickname for you.”
“Call me Maki or whatever you like. But you
have to promise me one thing.”
“What is it?” asked Yamapi curiously.
“Only I can call you Yamapi.”
Yamashita stopped at his track. He looked Maki with questioning eyes, but he didn’t see a smile on her face. She was
being serious. Deep inside, he was happy for getting that nickname. Despite how silly it might sound, but still it was
something precious that Maki gave him.
“Sure Maki, it’s a promise.”
They linked each other pinkies as
a sign of promise. And it was the start of their friendship.
***
Day by day, they became closer to each
other. She helped him a lot with his studies as he realized his old school was quite left behind from the curriculum of his
new school. He also always waited for her to finish her task as head class after school. He wondered why she had to do
everything by herself and why she didn’t have any friends. All the girls in their class ignored her, or so he thought. They
never invited her to join lunch or whatever. And it bothered him more once he caught some of them gossiping her one day.
“Ne Maki is fast, ne! Look on she claimed Yamashita-kun as hers already!” spurred a girl.
“Hell yeah! She
doesn’t give us a chance to know him,” replied another girl.
“She is such a slut. I thought she was dating that
Nishikido-senpai, they live in the same house now,” added the third girl.
Yamapi never cared to remember their
names, but he hated how they gossiped about his friend behind her back. The truth was he and Maki were running some errands
for Nakamura-sensei, but Maki said she left something in the class and asked him to bring it immediately. So the girls didn’t
aware of his sudden come back.
“Could all of you shut up?” snapped Yamapi as he barged inside the class.
The girls stopped talking. They were surprised to see him and were scared of his angry expression.
“Yamashita-
kun, please don’t take it seriously. We are just joking,” said the first girl.
“If you all have problem with her,
just tell it in front of her, don’t talk behind her back!”
“Hey, what are you? Her boyfriend? You have no idea how
slut she is!” hissed the third girl.
“PLEASE STOP!”
All heads turned to the door and saw Maki stood
there with tears in her eyes. They were speechless. The girls looked away, didn’t dare to face her. She quickly grabbed her
school bag and ran away. Yamapi followed her. It was easy to catch her. He caught her by her arm and embraced her from
behind, not caring pairs of eyes looking at them in the corridor. She stood dazed but suddenly struggled.
“Stop
following me!!” she shouted before she ran again, faster this time.
But Yamapi didn’t give up easily. He still
followed her and found her sitting on the grass in the park near their school. No more tears in her face, she just gazed
blankly. He slowly walked to her direction, afraid she might run again. She seemed calmer and she let him sat next to her.
She sighed.
“Maki, are you okay?” worried Yamapi.
“I’m fine, Pi.”
“I’m sorry for what
happened. I wish I could stop them.”
“It’s okay, Pi. They used to be my friends, so I know them. It’s not your
fault.”
“Used to?”
“Four of us used to be best friends until my parents died in accident early this
semester.”
Yamapi felt stunned at her words, he had known her for couple of weeks already, but he knew nothing
about her family. He always wondered why the name in the gate wasn’t her surname but he couldn’t ask about it. Now everything
was somehow clear to him.
“I’m so sorry to hear about your parents, Maki.”
“Since I live with my aunt’s
family, I couldn’t hang out with them anymore. I always said no if they invited me to karaoke or shopping after school, coz I
simply don’t have any money for that. And soon after they stopped inviting me and we just stopped being friends.”
Yamapi was speechless, he never understood how cheap friendship could be.
“I actually don’t mind. They could
just do whatever they like. It’s not the first time they talked bad things about me,” started Maki again.
“They
are just jealous, Maki.”
“Jealous? Why?” her eyes grew larger, and Yamapi was just lost in her beautiful eyes.
“You are smarter and prettier, that’s why!”
“I’m not pretty,” denied Maki, but he could see a pink blush
in her cheeks.
“Believe me, you are!”
“Thank you, Pi! I’m glad that I have you as my friend.”
Yamapi’s heart ached upon hearing the “friend” word escaped from her lips. He didn’t want to be just normal friend with
her. He wanted more, and it’s not best friend either. He wanted to be her boyfriend, he wanted to protect her. This whole
thing was new to him, he never been in any relationship before. He wasn’t ugly or nerdy, he knew most girls in their class
have a crush on him. He received an amount of love letters in his locker, but he never opened and replied to them. He only
wanted one girl right now, and that girl was Horikita Maki. But he didn’t know how to express his feeling, he was afraid of
rejection.
“Maki, let’s upgrade our friendship to best friends.”
He got an excited nod from her as a
reply. He admitted how cowardly he was.
***
She arrived home later that afternoon. It’s still strange
for her to call that big house as home. She realized it would never be her home. She just stayed there because of her aunt’s
kindness. Her aunt was her mother’s cousin. She was the only relative she has in that small town. She adored her, and always
said she wanted a daughter and was so happy to have Maki in her house. Her husband died few years ago and she has a son named
Nishikido Ryo. He was her senior at school, Ryo graduated last year and now studying at University, he went home only on
holidays.
“I’m home.”
No reply.
Ah, Auntie must be still at work.
She
walked to the kitchen and surprised to see a figure there.
“Ryo-kun?”
Ryo turned around and smirked at
her. His face was red, his step was tipsy, and he held a bottle of beer in his hand. He was definitely drunk. And she had a
bad feeling about this.
“Maki-chaaannn!! Long time no see! Don’t you miss meeeee??” Ryo greeted her with his
unusual cheerfulness. Alcohol was taking over him for sure.
“You are drunk, Ryo-kun,” replied her, taking some
steps behind. She didn’t like the smell of alcohol in his breath.
“Where are you going? I miss youuuuuu!” Ryo
tried to hug her but she managed to escape from him.
“I-I’m going to study. Good night, Ryo-kun!”
She
made a run to her bedroom upstairs. She never felt so afraid like this before. She wished that her aunt would come back soon.
She locked the door behind her and shoved her bag to her bed. She started changing her sailor uniform to her pajamas.
Suddenly the door was unlocked, and Ryo showed up with his creepy grin. A duplicated key in his hand. He locked the door
again and tossed the key somewhere on the floor. She quickly grabbed back her sailor top to cover her upper body. Lucky she
was still wearing her bra.
“GET OUT!”
“Tsk Maki, don’t be so tense! I have seen more than that.”
“W-what?”
“Your beautiful naked body under the shower, that’s what I mean.”
“Y-You are sick!
Get out please!!”
She took few steps behind until she felt a cold wall met her back. She was trapped. She could
feel tears started falling from the corner of her eyes. Ryo harshly took her sailor top from her hands, she was still wearing
bra and skirt and but she already felt totally naked in front of him.
“Please don’t touch me, please!” she begged
with tears still flowing from her eyes.
“Psst, don’t worry. I will make you feel good, you will like it,”
whispered Ryo with his hoarse voice full of lust.
His left hand forcedly chained both of her hands up across her
head. His right hand started touching her tight and disappeared inside her skirt, between her legs. She felt disgusted. She
wanted to scream but her mouth was sealed with his gross sloppy kiss. She tried kicking him away from her, only to receive a
slap on her face and some punches in her stomach which made her fall down on the floor.
But the pain she got from
the violence wasn’t even half of the painful she received when Ryo raped her virginity.
***
She woke
up the next morning, feeling sore in whole of her naked body. She winced when she tried to move her legs, her intimate area
hurt like hell. She covered her face with both hands and started crying. She just couldn’t believe what had happened last
night. Ryo was technically her cousin, but he still raped her, not just once, but multiple times until he was satisfied. She
felt so dirty and ashamed of herself.
She got up from her bed with all the power she had left, she glanced and
saw stain of bloods in her bed sheet. She sighed and reminded herself to change and wash before her aunt found it. She loved
her aunt, she always treated her like her own daughter, the daughter she never had. But she also knew that her aunt adored
her son more than anything in this world. So her words against his wouldn’t make any difference. She wouldn’t believe her
after all.
She slowly walked to the bathroom, looking herself in the mirror. The girl with swollen lips, bruised
eyes, hickeys all over her neck and breasts. She wished the girl she saw in the reflection wasn’t her. She knew she wasn’t in
the state of going to school today. She took a shower, cleaned and washed her face and body in excessive way, but she still
felt dirty no matter how hard she brushed and cleaned herself. She hated Ryo.
***
Yamashita looked
around his class in disbelief. He hadn’t seen Maki the whole day. He thought she was doing some errands for Nakamura-sensei
when he saw her empty table beside him. But after lunch, still no sign of her. He started to worry and regretted for not
exchanging cell phone numbers. He forgot to ask yesterday. He decided to visit her house after school.
***
He nervously pressed the bell of the Nishikido household. It was only on his third attempt when he saw her opened the
door and blinked her eyes in surprise. She never expected him to visit her that day. She relieved that she could cover the
bruises on her face with make-up and she wore turtle neck shirt.
“Yamapi? What are you doing here?”
“You didn’t come to school. I-I’m worried.”
Silence.
“Maki?”
“Ah, I’m fine,” she startled a
bit.
“But why you didn’t go to school today?” he demanded. He could sense something was wrong.
She
seemed reluctant, she looked around. She hadn’t seen Ryo the whole day, and her aunt already informed her by phone that she
would have 3 days of training in Tokyo. She was actually scared to be alone in the house with Ryo again. Traumatized would be
the right word actually. But she had no one else to turn to, until Yamapi came.
“Ne Pi, can I stay at your place
tonight?”
“W-What??”
“I will be alone in this house, and I’m scared.”
“But my father won’t
be home tonight, he has to do extra hours at the office. So there will be only two of us.”
Another silence.
“Maki?”
“It’s okay. At least I won’t be alone.”
She didn’t know why she trusted him. She only
knew that she felt comfortable around him. She didn’t wait for his answer, she told him to wait outside while she hurriedly
packed anything she needed for the next 2 days. She wrote a messy note saying that she would stay at friend’s house and stuck
it on the fridge.
She went outside and he was still standing there waiting for her.
***
They arrived at Yamashita’s flat. He apologized for having such small flat, and she chuckled and told him to stop worrying.
She liked his flat. It was very clean and neat. It reminded her for her old flat with her parents. They weren’t a wealthy
family but at least they had each other. She almost shed a tear remembering her late parents. She shook her head. She didn’t
want him to see her crying. She had enough of crying that day.
She cooked spaghetti for dinner. She was delighted
as he finished everything and praised her cooking. They washed the dishes together. Somewhere in his mind, he thought they
were like a married couple already. And he blushed. He was glad she didn’t notice it. She copied the lessons she missed when
she was absent that day. No homework so he spent the night watching TV. Rain started to fall outside.
She finished
copying his notes, few yawns escaped from her mouth. He told her to sleep in his room and he would sleep in his father’s
room. She nodded and entered his room. She teased him for his bed cover, it was doraemon. And he denied saying it was a gift
from his mother long time ago. She just smiled seeing him panic like that.
He finally excused himself and went to
the room next door. She changed her clothes to her pajamas and crawled to the bed. Rain still fell heavily with thunders. She
hated the sound of it. Suddenly lighting hit the sky and everything was pure black. She gasped in the darkness. Soon after
she could hear knocks on the door, she opened it and saw him on the dim light of small candle he held in his hand.
“Sorry, but I think we just have a black out,” informed Yamashita with a regret expression.
“Yamapi, I’m scared
of darkness,” she was just about to cry.
“I can get more candles, please wait a mo-”
“Will you sleep
with me?”
“Ehh?”
“No no no, I mean not that kind of “sleep”. I just want you to sleep beside me, at
least until the light goes on again,” she explained with a red face.
“But Maki, I’m a boy and you are a girl.”
“I believe in you, Pi.”
They ended up sleeping together in his small bed, still wearing pajamas with him
cuddled her from behind. He could smell her rose scented hair. He just hoped she couldn’t feel his pounding heart beat. She
fell asleep first, he secretly kissed her hair. He still could hear her steady breathing sound and how he wished time would
stop, and two of them would be together like this forever. They stayed in that spoon position until morning came.
***
They went to school together. She was relieved the hickey marks somehow disappeared, so she didn’t need to
cover her neck anymore, but she still borrowed his muffler. Everyone at school started gossiping them as a new item. They
didn’t care. They seemed to live in their own world, just two of them. Pairs of eyes starring at them with jealousy, but some
thought how they became the perfect couple. They were always together, always. They didn’t need any lame lovey dovey words to
describe how they love each other.
School already finished an hour ago. They stayed behind doing some errands for
Nakamura-sensei. They were ready to go home when she stopped at her track to see a figure at the gate. Nishikido Ryo was
leaning his back on the wall with cigarette on his hand. He smirked once he saw her and threw his half-finished cigarette to
the ground. She shifted her body closer to Yamapi, shuddered. Yamapi knew something was wrong. He wrapped her arm to her
shoulder in protective way. They didn’t move an inch. He stared at Ryo who walked freely to their direction.
Ryo
stopped in front of them, just a meter away. He snorted.
“What are you doing here?” her voice broke the
silence.
“Maki, I miss you. Let’s go home, shall we?” replied Ryo with his sweet voice. His hand stretched out to
reach her. But Yamapi shoved his hand and pulled her closer to him. Ryo’s face changed, he was annoyed.
“Who are
you? Her boyfriend?” asked Ryo with angry voice.
“I’m Yamashita Tomohisa, and yes I’m her boyfriend!” retorted
Yamapi with same angry voice. She gave him a puzzled look, but she nodded, agreeing his statement.
“Haha, you
could be her boyfriend like I care, but you have to know, she’s mine already,” mocked Ryo with evil grin on his face.
Her face turned pale all the sudden. And she surprised when Yamapi released his arm around her and walked to Ryo in
anger then blew a fist on his jaw. Hard. Ryo didn’t see it coming, he was taken aback and nursed his jaw. He spitted blood
from his mouth and was ready to punch Yamapi back.
“ENOUGH! PLEASE STOP! BOTH OF YOU!!” Maki screamed out loud.
The two guys looked at her, but they calmed and took some steps back from each other.
“Ryo, please go! Or I will
tell what you have done to the police!” she said again, she didn’t mean it, but she knew she had to threat him.
“You wouldn’t dare!” replied Ryo cynically.
“Try me!” dared her.
Ryo saw the serious look in her eyes.
He retreated himself. He didn’t want to deal with the police. He was a coward bastard after all.
“Remember Maki,
you are mine!!” declared Ryo before he went away.
She was relieved that he was gone, she could feel her body
getting weaker and so she fell to the ground. Yamapi caught her just in time. She cried in his chest. He caressed her hair
and whispered her everything would be okay. She pulled herself from him after a while. She looked for a tissue and wiped her
tears. She looked Yamapi into his eyes. He was obviously confused.
“I’m sorry Pi. But I think I can’t be your
girlfriend,” started Maki, not daring to face him anymore.
“But why Maki? You don’t love me?” replied Yamapi with
miserable voice.
“I do love you, Pi. But you don’t deserve me. I’m dirty.”
“What are you talking
about?”
“That guy … Ryo, he raped me. And I don’t want to talk about this right now. So please don’t make it
harder for me. We can’t be together.”
“That bastard!! We have to report about this!”
“NO!! DON’T DO
THAT!”
“Why Maki? What he did was a crime. He deserved to be in jail.”
“I don’t want to make my aunt
sad. She has been so kind to me. Please understand my situation, Pi.”
Yamapi grunted in depression. He felt
useless. He didn’t want to lose her. He didn’t care if she had lost her virginity with someone else, it wouldn’t change his
feeling to her at all. He still loved her.
“Maki, you can stay in my house. It’s a small flat, but you can use my
bedroom, I can sleep in the living room. When we are legal, I will marry you.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. She
felt really touched with his offer. But she couldn’t accept it. She didn’t want to ruin his future. Her future. Their future.
They were both still young; being tight in marriage in such a young age was never crossed in her mind.
“Yamapi,
you are so nice. I wish it will be that easy. But I can’t do that.”
Before he argued her back, she hugged him
tight. He was surprised at her action, but he hugged her back. They stayed like that for a while. Then she released her hands
from him. She tip-toed and kissed him on the lips. Their first kiss, soft and sweet.
“Goodbye Yamapi. Please leave
me alone for a while. I need to think everything out, kay? Thank you for everything.”
Yamapi could only watch her
back when she walked away from him. He cried without he realized it. His first tears after his mother passed away 5 years
ago. Goodbyes always hurt. Always.
***
Horikita Maki never went to school again. Nakamura-sensei
announced that she had been transferred to another school, and no matter how many times he asked where she moved, sensei
would never tell him. It was her own request after all. Yamapi checked Nishikido’s household after school. It was very quiet.
No matter how many times he pressed the bell button, no one opened the door. He asked the neighbors around. They didn’t
inform him much except that Nishikido family moved out in the middle of the night.
***
5 years
later
Yamashita Tomohisa finally graduated from his university. His application to work in a famous bank in Tokyo
was accepted. Soon he would start his new life as a salary man. He was happy to be back in the city. His best friend from
university Akanishi Jin invited him to his birthday party. He wasn’t a party type of guy but Jin would kill him if he didn’t
show up. So he decided to come to the party.
The party was held in a famous club. He congratulated Jin then sat
down in a secluded area. He didn’t feel like to party at all, but he ordered some beers anyway. He needed distraction. Some
girls tried to get his attention, but he didn’t feel like playing around. In fact ever since Maki went away, he never fell in
love with another girl again. His love life was empty. He still couldn’t forget her at all.
“Yamapi?”
He was shocked when he heard someone calling him with that nickname. There was only one person who would call him that him,
and that person was …
“Maki!”
Yes, Horikita Maki was standing in front of him. She was smiling to him,
the same sincere radiant smile. He was speechless for a moment. She was still beautiful, no, even more beautiful in soft
make-up and simple pink dress. Her hair still fell down her shoulder with lighter color and soft wavy curls. She was the
prettiest girl in the club.
He stood up from his seat and still admired her.
“Will you stop staring at
me?”
“Sorry Maki, but you are so beautiful! How are you? And where have you been?”
“I’m fine, Pi,”
teased her, simply ignoring his last question.
“Why you moved without telling me? 5 years, Maki, 5 years!”
“I know Pi, I’m sorry! But I did tell you that I need to settle everything right? I have settled everything now. I’m
a free girl.”
“What do you mean?”
“I eventually called my aunt, we sort made a deal. She didn’t want
anyone in the town to know about what her beloved son did to me. It was a disgraceful thing for sure. So my aunt sent me to a
dorm school and university. I told her that I didn’t need her money, just give me enough education so I can live on my own
after I graduated. So here I am.”
“How about that bastard?”
“Ryo-kun? He already apologized, and I
think I have forgiven him, sort of. It doesn’t matter. I have never met him again either,” she shrugged.
“I miss
you, Maki.”
“I miss you too, Pi.”
“Can we start over? I still love you.”
She didn’t answer
his question, but instead she pressed her lips into his softly. She broke the kiss then smiled. Sometimes action was more
efficient than word. He took it a yes and kissed her back passionately. Her hair still smelled like a rose and he still liked
it.

The end
by Dianne, January 2009
Finally it’s finished. I need almost 2 weeks to finish this almost 6,000 words fic ^^;; I’m such a loser. Hope you all
will like it. The title is stolen from one of A1’s songs. A bit cheesy I know. Sorry no smut in this fic, I failed at smut.
And I’m sorry for making Ryo a rapist bastard here. I still love Ryo, I really do.
Comments are love.
